23 – 24 Leinster Gardens, Bayswater, London are two apartment buildings that look so real but are actually dummy houses. Reading a bit of history on this, it was constructed in the late 1860s, at the time of the original steam-engine hauled underground railway that had a short section exposed to the surface in the space between residences at numbers 22 and 25. So technically, it was built like an habitable apartment when actually it served as an underground railway passage! Not to worry, I’m not giving a bit of high secret information here though so many people had been deceived by this, most especially unwary lottery winners who were given these apartments as their reward and on getting there discovered it as being just a facade…
Right so where am I going with this…a facade (as such buildings are called) can be used as a figure of speech to describe the ‘face’ that people show other people, as opposed to what people really think or do. This got me thinking actually, aren’t so many people just like these dummy houses, showing and giving clues of what they actually are not, it could be unintentional anyway, maybe just with the motive of fitting in…but is there any excuse for not being you?…are you real and ‘habitable’ or do you have a railway track behind all those pretty painted faces, deceiving unwary people?…maybe it’s only a cover up, designed to last for just a while, maybe it’s a game play or maybe it was borne out of seeming uncontrollable circumstances and what not, but be as it may, the eventuality lies where the truth lies, it’s only a facade…
