A get-back-after-a-long-while-of-‘mysteriously’-disappering-post

…hi guys (hehe the picture said that already)…how y’all doing? Took a long and maybe unnecessary break from here, ask me why…no please don’t…*insert toothy grin* well a lot had happened over the days and well since I don’t always remember every single thing that happens every single day, you need not worry, I would spare you and myself the troubles of an excessive narration of past experiences 🙂

However, there’s a particular and strategic experience I would love to share, for you know, the love of sharing :-)…(I just jinxed with the television, it someone said strategic and I typed strategic at that same moment *insert a much more toothy grin* )…

Ok so I got a job (yaay), it’s an online thingy (not yahoo yahoo hehe), more of an online marketplace where you get jobs and contracts for a time limit, and if all terms are met, you get paid…I was hired as an assistant though. I met my first and new boss, and she was an extremely pleasant person, she introduced me to the job and told me what it entails  (determination, persistence, diligence, time and all that), and well, I got hired…

First day at the job, after seeing me through the basics, I was left to enter data on a spreadsheet, I took the faulty and annoyingly slow laptop so it made the work really tiring and all…but then I managed to enter close to fifty entries. Anyway, I thought I saved it but I didn’t and I closed the tab because I thought I saved it but I didn’t. She tried to help me retrieve it through various means but none yielded any result, and my mum was waiting to pick me up somewhere so I had to leave with a sad cloud over my head (I could almost feel it haha). I told no one what happened but my twin, I only thought to myself, ‘psst, wave it off, it’s just one of those things and well I didn’t want it on that laptop anyway’…so I put my head up high ,dusted off my shoulders and got over it…

I got to the work venue really early the next day even before my boss, I brought a better laptop too. By the end of the day, I was able to make about two hundred entries which was a big feat to me. I was very happy with what I was able to do after what happened the previous day. Quite importantly, I saved almost every minute as I worked…and while I trekked to my mum’s office, a happy cloud hung over my head, it must have included a halo…

Waking up this morning, I opened the file and the nightmare that could have happened at night stared me in the face at broad daylight…the document was nowhere to be found. It was so bad that I attracted everyone at home to my seeming predicament, dad was searching everywhere on the laptop, my sister was asking series and series of questions ‘are you sure you saved it?’, ‘did you give the document a name?’, ‘did the system ask you the normal do you want to save the changes to this document  question before you closed the tab?’ and my answer, ‘err, yes!, no…, I don’t think so…I wan’t even sure of  anything at that moment…and then I started crying, strong me who could keep things in, who didn’t cry when she first heard that grandma died started crying, funny as it seems, it wasn’t funny at all, especially when I couldn’t stop the tears from flowing, and mum was giving her motherly condolences, she was saying things, I could barely listen but I made out the words ‘ma sunkun, a mo nkan ti Oluwa fe fi se’ (don’t cry, we don’t know what sign God might be showing us through this), failing at a new job certainly wasn’t a good sign I thought. My techish brother who knew about stuffs like that was forced into the picture, he couldn’t find it either. It was therefore concluded that I didn’t save it, silly me. Dad was certainly surprised at what he called unnecessary tears but he didn’t know that I fell twice on the same stone, countering the adage that says ‘one does not fall twice on the same stone’.

The hard part came when I had to send a message of apology to my boss…I did after battling with my self, technically, it begged for her not to fire me. She received the message, called me and asked me to check some certain places I had checked before, I checked, didn’t find it…I had resigned to the fact that I would start over again anyway…

But the eureka moment came when one thing led to another and I downloaded a new sheet, just to, you know, test stuffs, and I would never forget those words I saw when I tried saving the new sheet I downloaded…’the document, sheet 1 already exists, do you want to replace file?’, it was a beautiful feeling knowing that the sheet existed somewhere in the system, the proverbial ray of light in a dark tunnel. The document was found, glory to God who played an ever encouraging, never-give-up part and I didn’t want to close it again…ever, but I did, haha well it didn’t disappear again, I kept opening and closing it over and over again. After all the euphoria of finding a lost possession, I sent a text to my pleasant boss, it read ‘I’ve found it’, the reason I earlier called it the eureka moment, I thought Archimedes must have felt something similar to that when he exclaimed ‘I’ve got it!’                                                   … THE END…

Haha, congrats on the new gig.
Try Google Sheets maybe? They save automatically and are stored online.
